Help OWL Scotland learn about employment in the outdoor woodland learning sector Scotland

Please help us to learn more about employment in the outdoor woodland learning sector in Scotland by filling in our short online survey and by sharing the link with your own network.

Scottish Forestry are working to learn more about the types of employment within the sector and the economic contribution it makes. The results of the survey will be used to create a short report which can inform practice and policy. This report will be an addition to the overall picture of economic benefits of forestry outlined in the 2024 report ‘Economic Impacts of Forest Based Activities in Scotland’.

We want to hear from anyone who works within outdoor woodland learning sector on a full-time or part-time basis, whether it is your main role or a part of your job: (early years educators, school teachers, freelance educators or consultants, trainers, community woodland educators, biodiversity specialists etc). If your work involves working in or around woodlands for the purposes of education; facilitating learning on or about woodlands; using woodlands as a learning environment; outdoor work with specified learning outcomes undertaken in or around woodlands or environmental education undertaken in woodlands or forests we want to hear your views. We hope to build a better picture of the different types of roles and job profiles within the sector.

The survey should only take a few minutes to complete. The survey will be live until the 9th of February 2026. Click here to access the survey. If you work with others or are part of a formal or informal network of outdoor woodland educators we would be grateful if you could share the link to the survey.

Anyone who completes the survey can choose to enter the Free Prize Draw to win a place at the OWL Scotland skill share weekend at Dounans Education Centre in Aberfoyle (27th Feb to 1st Mar 2026). If you are already booked on this weekend your fee will be refunded. The prize is not transferable but if you are unable to make this weekend we could offer a free place at the summer skill share weekend as an alternative.

Thank you for your time and if you have any questions about the survey please contact Seona (seonamanderson@gmail.com), or Bonnie from Scottish Forestry (Bonnie.Maggio@forestry.gov.scot)
