12:45pm - conclusion and evaluation

1pm - finish

You can choose two of the four workshops to attend. The workshop options are:

Elder Crafts

Join this session to explore the creative potential of elder wood in this hands-on workshop. You'll learn how to use elder in simple, engaging craft activities, such as making puppets, animals, and vehicles. We'll cover safe tool use, share tips and techniques, and guide you through making your own creation to take home. You'll leave with a handmade toy and plenty of ideas to inspire your own sessions. This workshop is open to those working with all ages.

Lost Words

The aim of the session will be to introduce participants to The Lost Words and The Lost Spells. These wonderful resources can support literacy outdoors using nature as our inspiration. By the end of the session, participants will have explored how to work with language and literacy outdoors, in a range of outdoor settings, for a range of ages and abilities; and come away with various activity ideas for creative approaches to literacy outdoors. There will be opportunities to develop and share your own ideas. This workshop is best suited to those working with primary and secondary age children.

Multisensory Outdoor Learning for ASN

The aim of the session will be to: explore opportunities for multisensory learning in the outdoors to develop rich contents for learning; explore different activities and approaches that make use of the multisensory environment to engage learners with a range of additional support needs; look at some key supports and scaffolds to facilitate communication and engagement.

Knot that Shelter!

The aim of the session will be to introduce participants to five knots/hitches and two types of shelters that can be built using those knots. By the end of the session, participants will leave with a 1m length of paracord to practice knots, know how to tie five knots/hitches (with ‘how-to guides’ to take home with them), and be able to safely erect and dismantle two different types of shelters. There will be opportunities to share ideas about how we can adapt these knots/shelters to different age groups.

Tea, coffee and biscuits (BYO mug) will be provided with a suggested donation of £1 to cover expenses.

Wear warm waterproof clothing – we will be outdoors!

Priority will be given to Tayside OWL Group members and wider OWL Scotland group members.

Book soon to secure a place - numbers are limited!
