Lights, Shadows, Action! workshop
November 2, 2024 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Whether it’s Christmas, Chanukah, Diwali or Eid, celebrating our traditional Winter festivals help us to recognise, understand and celebrate the significance of human connections
Shadow play can help us interpret, develop and reveal the connections we share with each other, and that which we share with the natural world around us.
In this outdoor/ indoor workshop we will embark on a journey of shadows; exploring the wonderful dimensions and tricks that shadows can play on us. Using light, woodland materials and the shadows we can form, we will create our very own shadow play, directed by you!
This workshop is led by Luke Phillips, a Forest School Leader from Dundee, and is suitable for educators across all sectors. Luke will show us how to design and make our resources using natural materials and tools, explore how the lights we use influence the shadows around us, and experiment with shadow play/shadow storytelling in the woods.
By the end of this workshop, you will have:
- created puppets using natural materials and a variety of tools.
- designed, directed and performed your very own shadow play.
- explored the adaptations you can make to this activity for a range of ages.
Arrive at 3 pm for registration & refreshments for a prompt workshop start.
Tea, coffee and biscuits (BYO mug) will be provided with a suggested donation of £1 to cover expenses. Wear warm waterproof clothing – we will be outdoors! Do bring your own torch if possible.
Priority will be given to Tayside OWL Group members and wider OWL Scotland group members.
