DGOWL February Skills Share – Peatlands and their Importance – Members Meeting – Environmental Reporting and Record Keeping

February 9 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Morning Session 10am - 12noon - Crichton Carbon Centre

Carys Mainprize, Communications & Education Officer from the Crichton Carbon Centre, will lead a session all about peatlands and their importance in carbon storage, hydrology and restoration. This would be using the materials the CCC have designed for a customised award currently going through SQA accreditation for secondary schools.

Lunch & Members Meeting

12noon - 1pm - Bring a packed lunch for a brief Members Meeting to update DG OWL members on current and future projects and have your say on what you would like to see next from the organisation.

Afternoon Session 1pm - 3pm - SWSEIC

Just upstairs from the CCC, the South West Scotland Environmental Information Centre (SWSEIC) is the local environmental records centre for D&G and Ayrshire. They collect, collate and manage information on the natural environment in this area and make this information available to a wide range of audiences, from policy-makers to the public. Malcolm Haddow, SWSEIC Support Officer, will introduce us to their work and then we will go outside and turn words into action by seeing what we can find in the environs of Hillend Mill.

You are welcome to attend just morning, or afternoon, or both of the sessions. To book please use this link https://forms.gle/W91jaoZf1WnRvpRt8
