Guest Speaker

We are extremely lucky to have DGOWL member, Harry Harbottle as our guest speaker for this meeting. Harry established CATE (Children and the Elements) Consultancy Ltd in 2012 to offer advice and information on many aspects of children’s rights, play and play provision. Majoring on the balance between play value and safety, managing risk in play provision and inclusive play design the company provides consultancy to public, private and third sector organisations.

Appointed as an independent expert on child safety and play to the European commission in 1986, Harry is co-author of a guide to the European Standard on Playground Equipment now translated into 6 languages. He also co-authored a CEN Technical Report on Playground Equipment Accessible to all Children (2013).

Morning Session

11am - 12noon - Talk from Harry on Risk Benefit Assessment, followed by questions.

Lunch & Members Meeting

12noon - 1pm - Bring a packed lunch for a brief Members Meeting to update DG OWL members on current and future projects and have your say on what you would like to see next from the organisation.

Afternoon Session

1pm - 2pm - Talk from Harry on Inclusivity in Play, followed by questions.
